Bioregions

Australian's marine jurisdiction is divided into areas of ocean with broadly similar characteristics based on the distribution of marine species and seafloor features. These areas are called bioregions, and the network of Australian Marine Parks is designed such that it represents examples of the ecosystems, species and habitats within each of the bioregions. The map above depicts Australia's bioregions, as defined by the Integrated Marine and Coastal Regionalisation of Australia (IMCRA v4.0).
